The great-grandfather of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, played during the HMS Timbertown in 1916.
Fredrick George Glassborow (born 17 Dec 1889 in Leyton, Essex, England) responded to his countries call to action. He was one of 545 men and officers from Benbow battalion to be interned at ‘HMS Timbertown’ in Groningen (see the book Kate. The Making of a Princess).
In September 1915 Able Seaman Glassborow was chosen to represent his battalion in the camp’s Brigade Rugby Committee. Fredrick George Glassborow played for his Benbow battalion rugby team.
